A Journey through Time
The discovery of the ice-man Ötzi in the Ötztal mountains was a world-wide sensation. The glacier-mummy is more than 5,000 years old and was discovered in 1991 at the Hauslabjoch mountain. Due to his discovery at the Ötztal glacier he was given the name of Ötzi. Stone Age villages in the Ötztal valley have been dated back as far as 8,000 A.D.
The Ötzi Village in Umhausen recreates the life of Stone Age villagers in a playful and informative fashion. A large area of 11.000 m² gives insight into village life in the past, with well researched recreations of huts and further installations. All young visitors love the play area for Stone Age-kids, and the archaeological outdoor park impresses with many exciting Stone Age animals hidden along the way. Rituals were an important part of village life during those times, and the Ötzi Village recreates many celebrations and rituals as they may have been celebrated thousands of years ago. Children's birthdays are often celebrated here as a very special occasion.
